Hoge Runs…and Eats!

Just another foodie who loves to run!

Come on weekend! January 5, 2010

Is anyone else having a hard time adjusting to being back at work all week this week?  I feel like I’ve been there for-ev-er.  Could be because I was at work for 10 hours today…

This morning started off a little rushed as I totally slept through my yoga session accidentally on purpose.  I did have time to eat some overnight oats though!  I mixed 1/2 cup of Quaker oats and 1/2 cup of skim milk last night and let set in the fridge over night.  This morning I popped the mix in the microwave for about 2 minutes then topped with a dollop of natural peanut butter, a sliced banana and some Benefiber:

All mixed up:

Before my run at lunch time I snacked on a cup of Treetop natural cinnamon applesauce and a Kraft natural string cheese.

At lunch time I went out for a quick run.  I ran 3.24 miles in 33 minutes, it was a great day for a run, a light breeze, sunny and just a little cool.  I also found a shortcut from my office to a bike path that runs along the creek near downtown.  Sweet!!  I do love getting that workout break in at lunch, but I really am ready to get back to running in the mornings before work – either when we get a house and get a treadmill or this spring when it’s lighter in the mornings, whichever comes first 🙂

After my run I was ravenous!  I don’t know why, but it seemed like as I ate my lunch my hunger got more intense instead of better.  Thank goodness it went away within a couple minutes after eating or I’d have gnawed off my arm 😉

For lunch I had leftover red beans and rice, a piece of corn bread and a cup of peaches which I drained off all the liquid.

The picture of the rest of my lunch seems to have vanished…hmm.

Snacks were a duplicate of yesterday –  celery sticks with a packet of Justin’s maple almond butter and a Stonyfield probiotic yogurt.

And all throughout my eats today, I worked.  And worked, and worked!  Do you ever have a day at work where you feel like you’re answering email after email, phone call after phone call, and not really getting any actual work done?  That was my day!  It was really draining to feel like I was treading sand all day long, hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to actually cross things off my to-do list instead of chasing them 🙂

Dinner tonight was another duplicate – leftover crock pot lasagna, Ceasar salad and garlic bread.  I spared you a picture since you saw it last night.  We will probably be eating a lot of leftovers the next few weeks while I’m slammed at work, Chris is great about cooking if I work late but sometimes it’s just easier to make a week of leftovers instead of a new meal every night 🙂  How do you prepare when you know the cook in your house will be working lots of overtime?  I know one person who preps all their meals on Sunday before the week starts so she and her husband can just heat up their portions throughout the week.  If we had fridge space, I’d definitely try that!  I do have a great idea for how to jazz up our potato soup leftovers next week though!!

Are you watching the Biggest Loser tonight?  I can’t really get into it this early in the season, but I feel like it will be a good one!  Can you believe some of the numbers these people are putting up?  You all know my mixed feelings about TBL, but I still can’t turn it off 🙂  Chris and I figured out tonight we were totally using the TV antennae wrong and now we get 30 channels instead of 6!  Wahoo!!  It’s the little things 🙂

Well bloggies, better get my stuff together for tomorrow, have a wonderful Tuesday night!

I loooove celery with pb – best snack ever! I will have to give it a try with Justin’s maple almond butter since I am newly in love with that stuff too.

Hope work slows down a bit for you!

That’s a really great idea about setting the oatmeal in the fridge overnight. Do you use fresh oats instead of the instant oats? I use fresh oats on top of cereal and put them in my blueberry waffles, too, the other day!

I used Quaker oats which come in the big tube 🙂 They can be prepared either in the stovetop method or in the microwave, so I think they’re considered instant. I really like the texture of putting them in the fridge overnight because it’s more like the stovetop texture, in microwave time!
